Tim's Tip - Underground Storage Tank Investigation

One of the problems in locating underground storage tanks (USTs) in a conductive medium such as clay is that ground penetrating radar (GPR) is ineffective.

To overcome this problem the time domain electro-magnetic (TEM) system is a very viable alternative.

The conductivity contrast between the clays and the UST, even if it is non-ferrous, will allow the TEM to delineate it.

Alpha has been working with the terraTEM system for a number of years in this and similar applications.

Using a 1 or 2 metre coil, strong responses are able to be achieved even at relatively deep targets.
